A well-attended land purchase information event on 17 March 2025 in Mursko Središće marked a promising next step for the LIFE RESTORE for MDD project, which aims to purchase private forest land along the Croatian Mura in Međimurje County for nature restoration.
Organised by project partners Međimurje Nature – Public Institution for Nature Protection, WWF-Austria and the Association for Nature and Environment protection Green Osijek, the event at the Rudar Cultural Centre attracted 123 participants – far exceeding expectations – to discuss plans to acquire land within the Natura 2000 protected area.
The forests acquired through the project will be left to natural processes, revitalising habitats for endangered animal and plant species and increasing climate resilience.
After presentations and a lively discussion, more than 70 landowners expressed a definite interest in selling their land, showing a very positive attitude of people towards the project plans. The evening concluded with a get-together where participants had the opportunity to continue discussions with the project team and further explore the conservation goals.
